Thanks for this article! It is outstanding. It. has really helped me understand what the best strategies for teaching these high-frequency words are, as well as figuring out orders for introduction that truly make sense. In fact, it inspired me to go a step beyond and do a deep analysis of the most commonly used high-frequency words (Dolch words) and classify them by decodable vs. non -decodable, work out percentages of decodable vs. non decodable, classify decodable words by level of difficulty (and, again, work out percentages), etc. I actually compiled the results of this analysis here:
